2 Wayne State University
Five physicians witnessed the crude medical treatment that was available on Civil War battlefields.
The school indicates that in 1868, they committed themselves to advancing health education and health care in Detroit, Michigan.
The physicians founded the Detroit Medical College.
The school today is a 200-acre campus in Midtown Detroit.
