Requirements For State Park Rangers in Oklahoma

To become an Oklahoma state park ranger, you will need to:

• Have a valid driver’s license
• Pass a strict background and character check
• Have at least a minimum of 60 college credits with 12 in outdoor recreation, park management, or criminal justice OR
• Greater than two years of experience in park supervision, recreation work, environmental science, or law enforcement OR
• A combination of the above two requirements
• Must pass certification as a peace officer within a year of employment

• Duties of an Oklahoma state ark ranger include:
• Daily reports and updates of park activities
• Investigation reports
• Supporting visitors and answering questions
• Ensuring compliance with park rules and regulations
• Running investigations, issuing citations, and making arrests

• Patrol all areas and provide park security
• Give first aid/CPR when necessary
• Educate visitors on the habitat and how to care for it

State Parks in Oklahoma

Tenkiller State Park

One of the best-loved activities at this park is scuba diving.

Alabaster Caverns State Park

As the name suggests, cave activities are popular here.

The main draw is the guided tour of one of the largest natural gypsum caves in the world.

In addition, there are four spelunking caves.

It must be noted that the caves are closed from October 1 until April 30.

The resident bats hibernate during these months, and park officials protect this need.

There are picnic sites with grills and both RV and tent camp sites.

There is also a volleyball court and a nature center where visitors can learn about the caves and local bats.

There is also a gift shop.

For those looking for quiet activity, there are hiking trails to enjoy.

Beaver Bend State Park

This state park is the second most-visited one in Oklahoma.

It is also home to the largest wetland wildlife management area in the country.

It is home to over 280 species of birds, including the white pelican.

Alligators are found here, although they are often scarce in other parts of the state.

Visit the heritage center, enjoy a round of golf, or try trout fishing or riding the rapids.
